Regarding the geographical distribution of the IT workforce, the Report says that 40% of the nation’s IT geeks reside and work in Kiev and 46% are employed in such main Ukrainian hubs as Kharkiv, Lviv, Dnipropetrovsk and Odessa.
The competence and quality of Ukrainian IT geeks have already pushed such world leaders as PayPal andSkype to seek software developers on the Ukrainian IT job market and hire them for both in-house and distributed work. The Internet giants come to Ukraine mainly for PHP and JAVA skills. “We see the level of professionalism of [Ukrainian] developers employed by Magento which is also part of the eBay corporation, and do believe in the potential of Ukrainian specialists,” says Head of PayPal Recruitment in EMEA.
KyivPost also points out that in February 2013 the Ukrainian Prime Minister ordered the Ministry of Education and Science to ensure the increase of the state order for training IT specialists at the universities and update of curriculum based on the real world current and future business demands. According to the Premier, Ukraine will be in need of about 100,000 qualified IT specialists in 2015 due to the state support of the IT sector.
